In line with their vision for continuous improvement, innovation and digitization, leading third-party ship manager Fleet Management Limited (FLEET), has engaged Prevention at Sea to supply their fleet with electronic log books.

Mr. Ajay Chaudhary, Executive Director with Fleet Management said: «Our aim is always zero incidents, zero spills and to adhere to a zero-tolerance approach for any non-compliance. Migrating from paper-based log books to electronic log books allows us, to reduce human error and be more proactive.»

The decision for a fleetwide rollout of the software was taken after a successfull trial on several vessels and FLEET offices verifying functional performance, data security and alligning with the FML fleet digitizantion plans.

Some of the highlighted advantages moving away from the traditional paper Oil Record Book recording and the installation and use of the electronic Oil Record Book are;

1. Full visibility and transparency of records and log book entries onboard and in the office
2. Encryption backup both on the cloud and locally for data security and disaster recovery
3. Built-in rules to help seafarers in ensuring regulatory compliance by avoiding wrong entries and eliminating risk of detentions or fines
4. Alert functions notifying office personnel for uncommon entries which require investigation

The electronic log books are certified by the major class societies and accepted by all major flags as not only equivalent but a more efficient replacement of paper-based log books, following the MARPOL amendments for e-log books which came in effect on 1st October 2020 .
