At WMU, our unique connection to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) means our research insights have the potential to influence policy. In addition to sharing our research results with the wider maritime industry through formal reports, the knowledge gained informs our curricula, future research priorities, and capacity-development work. We actively integrate technical knowledge with human-centred soft skills %u2014 such as leadership and teamwork %u2014 which are essential for a modern, %u201chuman-centric%u201d maritime workplace.Ultimately, attracting Gen Z to maritime professions relies on the industry providing the wellbeing and sustainability focus, and academia providing the knowledge and education to equip graduates with the expertise to lead effectively. As a graduate of the World Maritime University, I understand firsthand the transformative power of a WMU education, both professionally and personally. Being immersed in such an international environment and learning from and alongside maritime professionals from around the world broadens and shapes perspectives in an extraordinary way, which, in turn, benefits and strengthens our industry. It is essential that WMU continues to provide top-tier maritime and oceans education to professionals who will carry that knowledge home and implement it at local, regional, national, and international levels, ultimately strengthening the maritime sector as a whole.WMU%u2019s relationship with the IMO, as our parent institution, is unparalleled by any other university, and our impact on the global maritime industry is significant. We are not simply preparing maritime professionals to work in the industry; we are preparing them to shape it. The international perspectives, networks, and cross-cultural understanding our students gain are central to that effort as they take on leadership roles and build a sustainable future for our industry. It is also essential that WMU continues to support the needs of the maritime community. Expanding our activities across education, research, professional development, and partnerships is key to providing relevant engagement and support for a rapidly evolving industry. A wide range of industry stakeholders play a central role in identifying needs and opportunities for collaboration as we work together to develop practical solutions to current challenges. Building on these efforts requires financial sustainability, which means growing the University%u2019s Endowment Fund and broadening our revenue streams through expanded involvement in research projects, consultancy work, outreach programmes, and closer cooperation with industry.Maritime education84 NX
