Concerns over jet fuel supply in the EUOn Tuesday, 14 April, the European Commission dismissed scenarios suggesting an immediate fuel shortage in the European Union, while noting that its primary concern lies with the adequacy of jet fuel supplies in the near future.Responding to a question about publications and letters from aviation industry bodies, the Commission%u2019s spokesperson for energy, Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, stated: %u201cThere is no evidence of a fuel shortage in the EU at present, but supply issues could occur in the near future%u201d.She explained that the EU energy coordination group, which had met a few days prior, confirmed that %u201ccrude oil supplies to the European refineries remain stable, with no need for additional stock releases at present%u201d. Nevertheless, she emphasised that %u201cthe situation regarding aviation fuel remains our primary concern at this time%u201d, noting that %u201cthe EU's refineries account for roughly 70% of the bloc's jet fuel consumption, with the remainder reliant on imports%u201d.The spokesperson added that the European Commission has increased coordination with Member States and industry stakeholders, holding weekly meetings of oil and gas coordination groups. The aim, she said, is to maintain a comprehensive and real-time overview of stock levels, refining capacity, and alternative import routes.
