At the end of September, Techcross announced that cumulative orders for its main product, the Ballast Water Management System (BWMS), had surpassed 5,000 vessels. This milestone, achieved 19 years after securing its first order in December 2006, marks a world-first record.
Founded in 2000, Techcross has consistently pioneered world-first achievements by focusing on water electrolysis technology. Following the International Maritime Organization’s designation of the Ballast Water Management Convention in 2004, Techcross became the first company in the world to obtain basic approval for a BWMS in 2006. In 2009, Techcross successfully installed the world’s first explosion-proof system, and in 2010, received the order for a large-scale system from a VLCC vessel.
In terms of order status, Greece accounts for the largest share at approximately 22% based on shipowners. Japan demonstrates a remarkably high repurchase rate, with more than 100 vessels ordered from a single shipyard. While orders have been balanced across vessel types, recent years have been a notable increase in demand for high-value-added vessels, such as VLCCs and LNG carriers. Techcross’s best-performing year to date was 2022, when annual shipments reached nearly 800 vessels. With the completion of its Busan factory in 2015, Techcross established the world’s largest BWMS production facility, capable of manufacturing up to 1,000 units annually-a level it has practically achieved in production.
However, the journey was not without challenges. In 2013, an operational issue arose onboard due to improper equipment handling, triggering industry rumors and a difficult time. Techcross responded swiftly-not only resolving the issue but also voluntarily recalling installed products to prevent recurrence. Using this crisis as a turning point, the company established training centers and systematic programs to provide thorough education in equipment operation and maintenance, laying a stronger foundation for growth.
These efforts have paid off: sales increased from 3.5 billion KRW in 2009 to 287 billion KRW in 2022, representing an 81-fold increase. In 2025, Techcross has once again achieved a historic milestone by surpassing 5,000 cumulative BWMS orders, while evolving beyond product sales to develop and deliver digital solutions and services. Moreover, as part of its commitment to a sustainable future energy, Techcross has expanded into the green hydrogen business, aiming for its next leap forward as a comprehensive environmental company.
