Today, while we build some of the world%u2019s best ships together, South Korea has also emerged as the primary destination for Greek exports in Asia, further cementing a bond that is truly mutual.Beyond the shipyard, where do you see the most promising opportunities for South Korean investment within the Greek maritime cluster and the broader economy?We are moving toward an %u201cinvestment-induced%u201d alliance, in which South Korean investment extends far beyond traditional shipbuilding. A core pillar of this vision is the %u201cGolden Trilateral Triangle%u201d %u2014 an initiative that combines South Korean technology, the Greek market, and US finance. By connecting Korean expertise with Greek industrial centres, we can co-produce ships and rolling stock right here in Greece.In this spirit of expansion, I hope to see a deeper synergy between the Greek maritime cluster and the city of Busan, which is currently being developed as a %u201cGlobal Maritime Hub City%u201d. Just as Piraeus is the gateway to Europe, Busan%u2019s focus on maritime finance and smart logistics can allow it to serve as a %u201cmirror%u201d hub for Greece in Asia.Furthermore, we are looking toward nuclear innovation. SMR-powered ships (Small Modular Reactors) represent a groundbreaking field, where South Korean R&D can meet Greek operational expertise to redefine maritime propulsion. Beyond the sea, building on the success of South Korean firms %u2014 exemplified by LG CNS%u2019s digital ticketing project for the Athens Metro %u2014 we see potential in areas such as AI-based water management and e-Gov solutions to support the digital upgrade of Greek public services.Both Greece and the Republic of Korea are located at geostrategic crossroads within their respective regions. In this context, how do you perceive the role of the two nations in safeguarding global stability and upholding the international law of the sea?South Korea and Greece share deep geographical and historical commonalities that shape our perspectives on international stability. Both are peninsular, sea-oriented nations that have survived foreign invasions and external pressures to preserve their distinct cultural identities. These shared experiences have fostered a profound sensitivity to issues of sovereignty and a rules-based international order.Today, as we both navigate complex regional environments, our commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) serves as the shared foundation for our maritime policies.
