In your recent speech on the future of shipping, you highlighted the need for global cooperation among governments, industry, and energy providers to keep trade open while advancing decarbonisation. In today%u2019s fragmented geopolitical and regulatory environment, how realistic is that vision %u2014 and what are the biggest obstacles that still need to be overcome? It is safe to say that our industry is entering a significant period marked by regulatory uncertainty, geopolitical instability, and the realities of the energy transition. The most unsettling challenge today is the current geopolitical environment and conflicts in key regions, which have had operational impacts on major trade routes, particularly through increased voyage times, higher insurance premiums, navigational risks and, most importantly, risks to seafarers%u2019 safety and wellbeing.Shipping will, however, forge forward, as it always has. What needs to happen now, as we confront these challenges, is to continue working with governments, industry, energy providers, and seafarers. Only through collaboration and strategic partnerships will we overcome these challenging times while keeping global trade moving and advancing the energy transition. The growth of the so-called %u201cshadow fleet%u201d operating outside international rules is creating serious safety, environmental, and reputational risks for global shipping.
