The 2nd Safety4Sea Forum, a PRO BONO event, successfully completed on 5th of October 2011 in Eugenides Foundation, Athens, covering a wide range in QHSE issues.

 

The event has been well attended by over 340 delegates at the venue representing more than 170 companies, plus more than 100 persons watching live streaming. The event organized by IBS Marine Consulting Group and sponsored by Aspida Maritime Security, Dorian Hellas, Transmar Shipping and Lloyd’s Register and supported by BIMCO, Intermanager, SaveOurSeafarers campaign, Steamship Mutual, Green Award, Cardiff University, ELNAVI, NAFTIKA XRONIKA, Tanker Operator, Shipmanagement International and Maritech News.

 

During his welcome address Mr Apostolos Belokas, Founder and Managing Editor of Safety4Sea.com, as the Forum chairman outlined the objectives of this PRO BONO event, including enhancing Safety Awareness, promoting Best Practices and providing for exchange of ideas.

 

Presentations were given in five sessions by aunique panel of fifteen (15) global experts, debating a wide range of issues, covering key trends, air emissions, piracy, human element and loss prevention.

 

During the 2nd Safety4Sea forum the following best practices promoted:

Ø      Best Practice Awareness # 1 : Save Our Seafarer Campaign, also a dedicated stand was available to those wishing to join SOS Campaign

Ø      Best Practice Awareness # 2 : Piracy : The Menace at Sea DVD (300 DVD copies distributed to delegates in co-operation with Steamship Mutual )

Ø      Best Practice Awareness # 3 : The Green Award Foundation

Ø      Best Practice Awareness # 4 : TheSeafarer Fatigue at Sea Project, in co-operation with Cardiff University

Ø      Best Practice Awareness # 5 : Anti Piracy Survey & Real Life Feedback, Preliminary results presented to the audience on wide Anti Piracy Survey initiated by Safety4Sea

It is worth mentioning that during the forum the following innovations effected:

1.     The Global Launch of the NEW Save Our Seafarers Campaign Film released

2.     A number of300 DVDs on Piracy – The Menace at Sea have been distributed to the delegates in co-operation with the Steamship Mutual

3.     The preliminary results of the Safety4Sea Anti Piracy Survey have been presented to the audience. The survey will be closed by end of October and results shall be widely circulated to the market and key industry associations.
